NORTH PERU, MR de SIPAN

To the people of the Andes, health is recognized as the harmonic relationship between one's self, one's community and one's environment

The stresses of day-to-day living tend to disturb or break up these harmonic relationships causing physical, mental, emotional or spiritual imbalance. Powerful Andean sacred places emit energetic and magnetic fields that can, when understood and worked with consciously, help one to regain that state of healthy harmonic balance. Through ritual and ceremony we find pathways into our inner spaces where we can experience this balancing force of universal stillness.
This Peruvian experience includes two distinct features; the first is where you will be going. From the beginning of your time on the Northern Coast of Peru, you will be stepping into the area most filled with pre-Columbian societies. The Huaca Prieta, Chavin, Moche, and Chimu societies have been dated by archaeologists as beginning about 3500 BC and continuing consecutively until the reign of the Incas. This places these cultures at the same time period as the great Tiahuanco civilization in Bolivia. We believes that these cultures may in fact be much older then these dates. We welcome the chance to share the sacred sites of these, the first great civilizations of Peru.

The second feature is the time that we will be visiting one of Peru's major centers of magic and ancient knowledge, Huancabamba. Huancabamba is known and visited by Peruvians from all over the country for the curanderos who live and work in this high mountain village. We will be working with them, and spending time deep in exercises. Camping at night and eating a specific diet. Our time in Huancabamba will be a six-day intensive…time spent doing deep work as opposed to time spent at sacred sites. We will be surrounded by the natural sacredness of this village, chosen by these healers as their place to live and work. Healers all over Peru call the spirits of the sacred natural areas that surround the village to aid them with their work. Being in these places is too receiving and connect yourself with the continued tradition of more then 5000 years. This is an experience to touch the essence of your existence or what we call knocking on the door when you come back home.

This experience is intended to be less a tour and more a very deep seminar physical, mentally, emotionally and spiritually- Physically, we will be living and working in the Andean mountains in a village that ranges from 6000 - 12,000 feet above sea level. Mentally and emotionally you are going to be asked to really shed many patterns of thinking and emotional ties that are drawing energy from you and/or prohibiting you from growing- Spiritually, this is not a tour but a seminar and you will be led through exercises that have the potential to open up all levels of your being- These are very deep exercises though and we hope to have a group who all have the desire to engage into this work.

The locations which appear in the following itinerary remain subject to some modification based upon the assessment of our guides and healers concerning the particular spiritual needs of our group. Traveling through Peru, especially in the remote areas where we will be visiting, is always filled with wonderful surprises which cannot be planned, but simply happen. With that in mind, here is our itinerary:

Flight from Lima to Trujillo. Afternoon tour of the coastal city of Trujillo, Peru's third largest city. We will visit Trujillo's market, famous for its crafts. We will also see many beautiful Spanish colonial buildings built in traditional style of 18th and 19th centuries. Overnight: Trujillo.

Travel to Chan Chan, the ancient capital of the Chimu Empire. Chan Chan is the largest pre-Columbian city in the Americas and the largest city of mud in the world, which archaeologists date back to 1300AD. Others hold that this empire was much older and maintained contact with Lemuria, the first race to inhabit this planet. Overnight: Trujillo.

Travel to Huacas del Sol y de la Luna, Temples of the Sun and the Moon. These huge pyramid temples constructed from adobe are attributed to the Moches, a great civilization that archaeologists say existed 700 years prior to the Chimus. The Huaca del Sol is believed to be the largest pre-Columbian structure built, although much has washed away. The Huaca de la Luna is smaller but more intricate, filled with beautiful friezes and artifacts. Overnight: Trujillo.

The morning will be spent in the fishing village of Huanchaco and then we bus to one of the earliest cities founded by the Spaniards, Piura. Piura is a coastal town located near the Equator next to one of the largest deserts in the world, the Desert of Sechura. Overnight: Piura.

Travel to the mystical, legendary town of Huancabamba. This is an 8-hour bus ride. We will spend the night in the city and depart the next morning to begin our work on the outskirts at 12,000 feet above sea level. This is an area full of spirits, powerful healers, and pristine nature. The lake of this area is where many of the healers in Peru go for their annual pilgrimage and personal cleansing. Our time here will be spent doing deep work with Dr. Paredes and some of the oldest San Pedreros in Peru. In addition, we will include solo vision questing facilitated by Dr. Paredes, and cleansing work in the Leguna Negra and the Shumbe Lake. We will have five days in the area and be camping in tents with 3 to 4 per tent. {If you prefer a private tent, you can bring your own...porters will carry them.} All meals are included while we are camping.

Travel from Huancabamba to Piura by bus and from Piura to Chiclayo by air. Depending upon the time of our arrival, visit the Mercado Modelo which has a large "shaman's market". Overnight: Chiclayo.

Visit Sipan. The Tomb of the Lord of Sipan offers an exquisite example of royal Moche burial rites along with priceless artifacts of that period. The discovery of this tomb has been called the second most important archaeological discovery of the twentieth century after that of the Tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in Egypt. This site was once a huge pyramid with several layers. Overnight: Chiclayo.

Flight from Chiclayo to Lima. Relax from the rigors of our adventure in the spas. Overnight: Lima.

Travel to Pachakamak Temple, a sanctuary devoted to the Creator of the Universe; the leading pilgrimage center on the central coast founded sometime in the first century AD and occupied until the Spanish conquest of 1532. Pachakamak was one of the most feared and revered pan-Andean oracles. All of the rulers or principle leaders would go to Pachakamak to consult the forces there before making major decisions efecting their rule. It is said that Inka Wayna Capac, when he went to Pachakamak in his obligatory visit, was told that difficult times were coming for the empire involving white people who came from the sea. Following our farewell dinner we depart for the Lima airport.
